The theme for 2004 is ‘SUSTAIN’, the word itself
has three meanings, to nourish, to maintain or to experience.
Sustainability is a major concern in the 21st century. Resource
use, re-use and conservation, waste and efficiency are all vital
issues to today’s inventors and innovators. As our society
becomes more aware of the environmental, social and economic
impact of consumerism, designers are paying close attention
to the footprint of their creations.
Fringe Inventions is the vehicle for the presentation of
inventions and innovations from all over Australia. Inventors
from primary, secondary and tertiary institutions and from
the wider inventor community will display prototypes in this
exhibition. Their inventions not only serve a purpose but
are works of art in themselves. Discover the ordinary people
with extraordinary ingenuity. Witness the birth of a million
dollar idea or the shape of the future.
