Street art is an ephemeral, temporary and spontaneous beast.
It is often illegal, anonymous and
very stealthy making it a genre of art that many are not familiar
with and do not necessarily value.
s u r f a c e – subject to change is a rare chance to
get to know and appreciate this unique art
form. Melbourne is currently heralded as one of the prime
street and site-specific art locations in the world. The Melbourne
street art scene is dynamic and bursting with enthusiasm,
new styles and new kids on the block! With recent international
endeavors and exchange programs involving street artists from
Melbourne and LA as well as groups such as The Silent Army,
who have secured international publishing commitments for
their future projects, the Melbourne street art scene is currently
attracting attention by the wider arts community. Recent visits
from Banksy (UK) and Space Invader (France) have also strengthened
the kudos of Melbourne’s street art culture.
Our street artists are culture-makers and attitude enhancers
who are integral to the soul of our city.
Artists include: james Dodd, Civil, Phibs,
Ashtek, Vexta, Pets, Nails, Pandarosa, tin&ed, Sync, Reka,
Monkey, Two, Andrea Jolley, Kiron Robinson, Chris Hill, and
the Silent Army.
