Climate Cycles is a computer generated animation which will be installed at two different venues for the festival, Friends of the Earth Food Co-op (Collingwood) and Rue de Fleurus Bar (Fitzroy). The project interprets a historical climate database by combining scientific and visual arts techniques.
Retro computer generated graphics created using computer code and mathematical geometry were used to create visual sequences which represent warm or cool climatic moments in history. Interspersed between these sequences is a visual representation of the data locations over the globe showing the spatial variation in climate for each year of data.
The use of the underlying data gives the animation a unique visual rhythm both spatial and temporally. The work has a durational component as the animation has been generated using 4000 years of data.
