Fringe Inventions is an exhibition celebrating inventions that not only serve a purpose but are works of art in themselves with a strong visual impact.

This is the third Fringe Inventions exhibition, the first two drawing thousands of visitors to this off-beat, edgy and very "Fringey" event.

Fringe Inventions moves to a new home this year in the fabulous Chapel Gallery, upstairs at Chapel Off Chapel

Trying to improve on the wonder of such past popular inventions as 'Star' the dog coffee table, 'Tandem Thongs' the 'Sideburn Stencil' and the 'Telephone Dialler for sight-impaired people with short stubby fingers', Australia's inventive brains will be working hard to offer visitors another very different Fringe experience.

This year's event has an expanded involvement by school students with an exciting mix of fantasy and technology from Victorian students.

Do you have a finished prototype?
A work in progress?
A great idea?

Fringe Inventions offers a chance for the inventor to exhibit her or his work and have its uses demonstrated.

The exhibition aims to meld elements of art, performance and ingenuity. We're looking for a range of inventions from the intensely practical to impractical but amusing or whimsical.

When we choose inventions for the exhibition, we'll be using words like:

                           "Ingenious"              "Looks great"
    "Unexpected"                   "Funny"                    "Eye-opening"

                      "Very very clever"              "Bizarre"

All information will be confidential and your ideas or invention will not be discussed or shown to anyone outside the Fringe office without your knowledge and permission.

There will be prizes awarded for best invention in each category.

We are looking for inventions that show originality of design and/or fabrication. We'll display an old idea given a new face but it's unlikely to win anything.

Because this is an exhibition, no drawings or plans will be accepted. We need to display an actual creation.

To submit an invention, you can fill out a Submission Form...
