About

Melbourne has a reputation as a nationally recognised centre forpublic art, both permanent and temporary.

For Site Unseen ten visual artists have been commissioned to create temporary public artworks, exterior signs and creative markers that acknowledge moments of celebration and history in the lives of ordinary people. These intimate one-, two- and three-dimensional artworks have been placed in locations around the City of Yarra.

Participating artists have responded to the project brief by creating works in a wide range of mediums. There are paste ups, sculptures, cut and coloured grass earthworks, artworks in trees, installations of small paintings and an archway lit with solar power.

As part of Site Unseen an eleventh artwork has been commissioned to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Melbourne Fringe. Buff Diss’s artwork will be made from masking tape and will adorn the Festival Hub laneway at the North Melbourne Town Hall Arts House.
