The Cocoon is an immersive theatre experience about the binding energy of love. The space is divided into webbed caverns that are occupied by performers simultaneously living out scenes of various romantic relationships. There is a couple in the midst of a break-up, a middle aged gay pair who fall in love with a woman and try to manoeuvre their way through a “millennial relationship”, a young woman performing a monologue about her unrequited love, and a young lesbian couple falling in love for the first time. The pieces are performed on a loop and are interwoven with each other with music, shared dialogue and shared experience. The audience can weave throughout these pieces, choosing where they want to stay and listen and perhaps partake. They will be able to talk to the actors and the actors have the freedom to respond. The performers break the fourth wall and are encouraged to speak to the audience; the piece floats seamlessly between exposition and narrative, prose and poetry. This will be a hypnotic, dreamlike, sexy and exciting experience for the audience; combining performance art, immersive theatre, poetry and visual art.
