A physical comedy based on Sumatran folklore.

♫ Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo... ♫

Innocent little Samson lives in a tropical paradise, singing to himself while simmering his rendang. One day, he decides to venture outside of Samson Island for the first time.

As he travels through the Samson Archipelago, Samson meets characters of Indonesian and Malay lore, like Kuntilanak (Vampire), Harimau Jadian (Weretiger) and Duyung (Mermaid).

From creator-performer Shannan Tamby Lim (Melbourne Fringe Winner), director Ben Volchok (Adelaide Fringe Winner) and dramaturg Laura Trenerry (Melbourne, Adelaide Fringe Winner).

'Merantau' is the Minangkabau tradition of journeying from your homeland as a rite of passage.

Samson is transportive while brimming with humour and bonhomie. And like our most enduring parables, it feels simultaneously universal and timeless.

Sweet, flirtatious and sinister characters. A show that felt both engaging and calm, which enabled the audience to sit back and let the story wash over them.
